Innovation is the foundation of all progress and is therefore essential to the sustained success of businesses in Saxony-Anhalt.

Founders, sole traders, inventors, entrepreneurs and researchers at the state's universities and research institutions were invited to apply for the Hugo Junkers Award for Research and Innovation from Saxony-Anhalt 2026 with their outstanding inventions and scientific achievements. 

In a multi-stage selection process, an independent jury drawn from science, industry, business and the skilled trades selected the finalists according to the following criteria: business strategy, degree of innovation, resource efficiency, economic viability and market potential. Once again, a total of €80,000 in prize money was awarded. 

In this round of the competition, the SPECIAL AWARD focuses on the "Most Innovative Initiatives and Projects for Climate Change Adaptation", seeking promising, innovative projects made in Saxony-Anhalt.

The winners were publicly announced and the Hugo Junkers Award for Research and Innovation from Saxony-Anhalt was presented in four categories at a ceremony on June 11, 2026 in Magdeburg.

For more than 30 years, the State of Saxony-Anhalt has presented the Hugo Junkers Award for pioneering innovations in science, industry and the skilled trades.
The competition is organized by IMG – Investitions- und Marketinggesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt mbH in cooperation with Impetuum GmbH (formerly Univations GmbH).
