A specific operation involving your personal data is also called a processing activity. Each processing activity must have a specified purpose and, among other requirements, a specified legal basis; otherwise, processing is not permitted.
The controller is the party that ultimately determines the purposes and means of processing your data. It does not matter whether the controller is an individual, a company, another organization, a public authority or a similar body. The controller may determine the purposes and means of processing alone, jointly with others or on behalf of a third party.
